Microsoft Outlook is the most widely used email management utility in the business and corporate world. It is used for sending and receiving mails and storage of other attachments, notes, appointments, tasks, calendar and other outlook data in the .pst format. There are generally two popular format as ANSI and Unicode format. Most of the space is occupied by the attachments thus causing oversizing of the PST files. Earlier MS Outlook 2002 version uses ANSI format for storing PST files that has limitation of size up to 2GB. Exceeding this limit might result in severe PST corruption. Thus it is always better advised to compress PST files.
Although outlook versions 2003 and there after uses unicode format for saving pst files and is free from size limitations. Still it is seen that the outlook becomes quite slow in performance and takes time while loading files and attachments. Thus, PST file compression greatly minimizes the storage space and size of the PST files and improves the performance of Outlook.
In some cases the outlook users can encounter problems after compression due to

any error resulting in the interruption of the compression process.
Alternatively, Outlook users can use third party PST repair software to repair damaged and corrupted PST files due to oversized PST files.
