Microsoft Outlook uses Internet Mail Access Protocol which is often known as IMAP that makes use of personal folders or .pst file. We know that all data stored in outlook are actually stored in these PST files. Sometimes, a PST files also gets corrupted due to several reasons. One of which is a large PST file exceeding 2GB storage (in outlook 2003 the capacity of PST storage is upto 2GB), which can be a most probable reason for outlook corruption. One such way is using the default tool which is know as Inbox repair tool or scanpst.exe but sometimes the scanpst.exe fails to repair the corrupted PST files and generally in case of large size PST files. In such cases you can use any good third party PST repair tool available in the market watching the comments and reviews, you will be able to decide whether the software is good or not.
Sometimes, registry related problems also leads to cause the 0x80040201 error. For such cases it is recommended to use a good registry repair tool to repair all your registry issues.
